Visitors are welcome to the TLBO and no prior notification is required for our day-time banding. However, for our owl banding please contact us beforehand by email at tatlayokobirds@hotmail.com to find out if we will be banding that night as it is weather dependent.
The TLBO is located just north of Tatlayoko Lake and 32km (~45 minutes drive) from the Hwy 20 turnoff at Tatla Lake. Look for our “TLBO” sign on the gate on the west side of the road at the north end of the old airstrip, approx. 1.5km north of the lake. Drive in 600m to the south end of the fields where you will see our green banding lab building. If there are no vehicles present we are not operating. If there is a vehicle but nobody around, please stay around the parking area and the banders will show up within 15 minutes (we will be out checking our mistnets and will return shortly with any birds we have caught). Please do not wander around as the nets we catch the birds in are very hard to see if you are not familiar with their location and they are easy to damage if you come into contact with one.
Visitor hours are approx. 8:30am – noon (August 3 – September 28) and evenings after dark for Owl banding (September 5 – October 15)
We look forward to seeing you at the TLBO!
